But the longer I work in this field, the more I understand
I understand why there are so many suicides
There is so much pain
So much unnecessary suffering
So much ignorance
The injustice of having to decide
To end your pet’s life because you have no money
The injustice of being told I’m in it for the money
When I have none myself
The innocents that people are willing to neglect, abandon, hurt, torture
In this field
You see the best of humanity
In this field
You see the worst of humanity
And just how much we don’t deserve animals
In this field
You see endless suffering
And sometimes it all feels futile
Some days are good, and you feel like you’re making a difference
Some days, it feels like the suffering will never end
As long as the world keeps turning
